Building a New Cabin-Table

When I bought Ahora, the interior of the main cabin was in a quite decent shape, especially regarding her age. But there was one thing that bothered me right from the beginning: The cabin-table. It was quite worn down, felt and looked cheap and for some reason the varnish was not waterproof (!), such that each drop of water left a mark on the surface. Thus, a new table became an item of my todo-list for the winter.

And as always, I did not settle for the simplest solution. My table was to be built with a box in the middle as storage for some fine spirits.

I was lucky enough to know a carpenter who let me use his shop and helped me out whenever there was a step in the process that needed more than my (limited) carpentry skills. Here is how I build the new table.
